We have really tried to stay true to our love of travel with our site, but it is really difficult to not get swept up into the COVID-19 hype.
We are determined to keep our images and words positive and uplifting, in the hope that when you look at one of our posts, it brings a smile to your face and for a moment you are thinking of nothing but the beautiful images we want to share with you.
It is three months today that my Mum passed away.
I bring this up because it doesn’t matter how focused you are on a goal or a dream, life happens and it can derail you.
As if there isn’t enough going on in our world with work, family, friends, something happens that rocks your world. So what do we do here at Flashpackerstravel to stay focused?
We are so lucky to share one true love…………..photo’s. We both find something each day that takes our breath away and stops us in our tracks. Often we pull the car over, or take a pause in our stride to take an image. Sometimes we just stop and follow a butterfly that is swirling around us, or let a crimson rosella carry us away with it as it flits from branch to branch.
We both are really good at being present with each other, but it wasn’t always like this. In the past one of us would want to share something exciting that happened in our day, whilst the other remained in ‘busy’ mode, cooking or cleaning or just not being present. It has taken conscious, deliberate steps to catch ourselves and really stop and listen to each other. Now it just happens automatically, we find it easy to stop the automation of a chore and slip into the happy energy of one another.
We find it easier to stay positive, too, by not listening or watching mainstream media any more. Greg’s experience in how aviation stories are reported in the media, allowed him to see how fear and sensationalism sells many news stories. Every aviation report seems to contain that one passenger who “thought they were going to die!”
It’s not hard to imagine why the current supermarket clearances have happened with media that exaggerates and sensationalises, but rarely informs. Take a step back, listen and think about the next news article you see or read. Be critical. Question and do your own research.
Advertising also sells using fear, uncertainty and doubt. How many germs are REALLY on your kitchen bench? Do you REALLY benefit from pro-biotics? Ads are designed mostly, to activate your ego. They make you ‘think’ you want, need or even deserve something when you really don’t.
We also have filled our Fb and Insta feeds with topics we love. A scroll through my social media has you falling in love with every single place in the world, a scroll through Greg’s has you on a tour through an aviation museum.
We have re-discovered the Blues & Roots music channel on the television.
We take time out to walk and exercise each day and we take time out to sit and be in the moment.
As much as we can, we dictate what we want to surround us.
Hopefully we can all fill small moments in our day with happiness and kindness.
We hope you find some useful ‘take-aways’ in our blogs that help you in some way. Please leave your comments here on our page and follow us on Facebook or Instagram.
